Made from air-dried Nebbiolo grapes, the Rainoldi 2017 Sfursat di Valtellina Fruttaio Ca' Rizzieri is only made in the best vintages. This release of approximately 14,000 bottles represents a special selection of fruit sourced from terraced vineyards across the estate, then left to dry for two months in a well-ventilated drying room called the Fruttaio Ca' Rizzieri, at 500 meters above sea level. The wine then ages in barrique for 18 months. You taste the appassimento process with dried berry, plum and wild cherry confit. The dried fruit transitions smoothly into lifted aromas of licorice root, cola and tarry smoke. The experience is pushed forward by the wine's 15% alcoholic content.
