Description

They kept the 2021 Pizarra in their portfolio, produced using grapes from different vineyards on slate-rich soils, one of them Carballocobo, and includes some 15% each Brancellao and Caíño grapes from younger vines, which makes it livelier. Like many other reds, it was produced partly with full clusters that were foot trodden and with indigenous yeasts in troncoconic French oak vats and matured in 225-liter barrels and 2,000 liter foudre for 18 months. It's darker—the Mencía has thick skins and the soil gives a note of earth—and it's a little more rustic. It comes in with moderate ripeness and 13% alcohol, balanced and harmonious but with quite a lot of tannins that might require a little more time and/or powerful food. 980 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2024.
