The Single Malt Era: In 1984, the distillery introduced its first single malt, Yamazaki 12 Year Old

Yamazaki 12 Year Old is a highly acclaimed, award-winning Japanese single malt whisky produced by Suntory, offering a delicate, multi-layered profile with notes of peach, pineapple, and Mizunara (Japanese oak). It is a 43% ABV spirit, widely recognized for its soft fruitiness and long finish.

Historic First: In 2003, Yamazaki 12 Year Old became the first Japanese whisky to win a Gold medal at the ISC.  

The ISC has recognised the House of Suntory with the “Distiller of the Year” award on five occasions: 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2021. In addition, it has been the only winner of the “Producer of the Year” — Japanese Whisky award from the ISC since its creation in 2020, and Shinji Fukuyo, Chief Blender of Suntory, was awarded in 2024 as “Master Blender of the Year”. This international acclaim extends to the home of Suntory’s white spirits, with Suntory Osaka Distillery winning producer of the year at the IWSC Awards in 2025.

This product meets the standards set out by the Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association for labeling Japanese Whisky.
