The 2019 Sancerre Pieuchaud Silex is a delightfully balanced wine, offering both flesh and roundness on the mid-palate. It retains a sense of focus and fine freshness, which is no mean feat, as 2019 was a hot and dry year, leading to many wines that are high in alcohol and lacking in vitality. Vigneron Luc Prieur put it down to better soil management in recent years, leading to lower pHs and better balance. Flint (silex) soils produce wines that are typically upright and structured on the conclusion, and this is no different. Florals, lemon tea and apples feature on the medium-length finish.
